Single Issues

Issues #1 - #6, and #11 are sold out. "RoW" stands for Rest of World.

ZINES:
electric velocipede 14

Issue #14 debuted at Wiscon 32, May 22 - 26, 2008. Wiscon, if you didn't know, is the world's largest feminist science fiction convention. So I thought it only right to have an issue featuring all female contributors that could debut at the convention. The cover is by Lisa Snellings-Clark (see it larger here. Contributors are Lida Broadhurst, Karen Joy Fowler (who braved our Blindfold Taste Test), Erin Hoffman, Elissa Malcohn, Lisa Mantchev, Tracie McBride, Sandra McDonald, Melissa Mead, Penelope O'Shea, Jennifer Pelland, Sara Saab, Michelle Scott, Sonya Taaffe, Leslie Claire Walker, D. E. Wasden, Leslie What, Sharon E. Woods, and Erzebet YellowBoy. This is an extra-big issue at 100 pages!

Electric Velocipede issue

First things first. Issue #13 has a cover from Steve Wilson in the style of his My Elves Are Different webcomic. Kind of reminds me of an old Victorian broadsheet, eh? Great fiction and poetry from KJ Bishop, Marly Youmans, Claude Lalumière, Rachel Swirsky, Marie Brennan, Jennifer Rachel Baumer, Corey Brown, Mikal Trimm, Jon Hansen, Philip J. Lees, Damien G. Walter, and Richard Howard's first publication. A nice blend of the ridiculous and the fantastic. We're also adding a new nonfiction column named "Sampling the Aspic." The column will be about food and cooking (something I love), and in addition to some recipes and food writing, will feature a short question-and-answer section. This month, Kage Baker takes our blindfold taste test.

Issue #13 USA $5.00

Issue #13 CAN $7.00

Issue #13 RoW $9.00

Electric Velocipede issue 12

Thom Davidsohn finally convinced me to put a robot on the cover with issue #12, and I'm sure glad he did. Stories from Bruce Holland Rogers, Jay Caselber, Brendan Connell, with poems by Bruce Boston and Megan Messinger, as well as much, much more!

Issue #12 USA $5.00

Issue #12 CAN $7.00

Issue #12 RoW $9.00

Electric Velocipede Issue 11 Issue #11. I figured after only having six stories in issue #10, we needed to make up for that this time around. Stories and poems from Tobias Buckell, Scott William Carter, Matthew Cheney, Jeffrey Ford, Nikki Kimberling, Jennifer Pelland, John B. Rosenman, Christina Sng, Sonya Taaffe, Steve Rasnic Tem, Mary A. Turzillo, Catherynne M. Valente, Edd Vick, Liz Williams, and Marly Youmans. Whew!

Electric Velocipede issue 10 Issue #10. How cool is it that this made it to ten issues? Another stunning Thom Davidsohn cover, as well as exciting stories from Jeffrey Ford, Rick Bowes & Mark Rich, Robert Freeman Wexler, and others.

Issue #10 USA $5.00

Issue #10 CAN $7.00

Issue #10 RoW $9.00

Electric Velocipede issue 9

Issue #9. Inside the stunning Thom Davidsohn cover is an amazing novelette from the red-hot Hal Duncan, as well as a spectacular piece from follow Scottish writer Neil Williamson. A nerve-burning tale from the talented Jay Caselberg will keep you up at nights. That, and so much more inside issue #9 of Electric Velocipede. The copies that are available for purchase are the second printing with a white cover.

Issue #9 USA $5.00

Issue #9 RoW $9.00

Electric Velocipede issue 8

Issue #8 features another exciting story from Liz Williams, as well as selections from Charles Coleman Finlay, Sonya Taaffe, Dan Braum and others. Yes. It's purple. I thought with a young lady on the cover a more feminine color was appropriate. Plus more than half the contributors are female in this issue, which is very cool indeed!

Issue #8 CAN $7.00

Issue #8 RoW $9.00

Electric Velocipede issue 7

Issue #7 has great fiction from the likes of Liz Williams, Christopher Rowe, Sidewise-Award Winning author Chris Roberson, Mark Rich and others! Another solid, professional-looking issue. Debuted at Worldcon in Boston despite some miscommunication with the printer.

Electric Velocipede issue 6
Issue #6 was called "Very impressive" by Locus. Great fiction from the likes of Liz Williams, Stepan Chapman, William Shunn, Jay Lake, Alan DeNiro, and more! It probably goes without saying that there are some design changes to the issue. First issue made by Paradise Copies. Solid, professional-looking issue. This is also the first issue to reflect the new price of $4 an issue and $15 for a four-issue subscription.

issue 5 sold out
Issue #5 is the giant 56-page issue; nearly double the size of a normal issue. Featuring fiction from Paul DiFilippo, Michael Kanaly, Rick Klaw, James Hartley (aka Jay Caselberg), and many others. Poetry from Christina Sng, Christopher Hivner, and Marie Kazalia. A good steady seller that eventually sold out.

issue 4 sold out
A new year, and a new design. The beginning of the current look of Electric Velocipede. Stellar writing from Jay Caselberg, Stepan Chapman, William Shunn, Beth Adele Long, and Mark Rich. Poetry from Christina Sng and John Rubins.

issue 3 sold out
Issue #3, the first issue to sell out. Featuring excellent work from Neal Barrett, Jr., Brendan Connell, Vincent Sakowski, Christina Sng, and Kevin L. Donihe. This issue was put together while I was out of work for a while, so it has some special meaning to me. I was glad that I could continue to make the zine even with my home situation awry.

issue 2 sold out

The second issue, the second issue to sell out. A perfecty follow-up to an auspicious beginning. Jeff VanderMeer, Rick Bowes, Norman Partridge, and Harold Gross' story "Wreckage," which made the Recommended Reading list for The Year's Best Fantasy & Horror, 16th Annual Edition. Poetry from Kevin L Donihe, and Mark Rich.

issue 1 sold out
The premiere issue. The one that started it all. The design is different, but the quality is there. Stories from Alex Irvine, Shane Tourtellotte, and James Hartley among others. Poetry from Steve Sawicki, Mark Rich, and B. A. Chepaitis.

EZRA PINES

Ezra Pines Chapbook

"The Sense of Falling" by Ezra Pines; illustrations by Mark Rich; introduction by Hal Duncan.

This is our first chapbook. Readers of the zine should already be familiar with Ezra Pines, particularly his Mr. Brain stories. Ezra is a curmudgeonly sort, and it shows in his writing. He also has an amazing imagination that can literally stun a reader. The chapbook features 10 previously published stories and two brand-new stories: "Antevellum," a response to Hal Duncan's excellent novel, Vellum, and "Of Light and Snow."
